September Book

Cougar Bookworms Teacher Book Club...
_edited.jpg)

I wanted to create a schoolwide reading culture, so I started a teacher book club...AND WE DON'T READ EDUCATION BOOKS. We're reading mysteries, spicy books, modern authors, thrillers, fantasy and enjoying every minute of it! I am getting so many "adult" book ideas from my fellow BOOKWORMS.

FIRST, I sent out a text to our staff if anyone was interested in starting a book club with me, AND I STRESSED, we will not make you talk about education. Sexy cowboys could be on this list, ya know?!? I generated about six interested coworkers.
-
We met and chose a name and got a t-shirt designed to wear on our meeting days. We get a new one every year as we add members. This year, we're getting our names on the back.
-
We met during the summer at my house and discussed our summer book. We skip August and late December, early January.
-
We bring snacks!
-
This year, we are starting to have a quick craft that goes along with our book.
-
The books are not high-brow stuff.
-
I started out with set questions, but the vibe didn't fit with our group.
-
Jen Buckley of PishPosh T-Shirts designed our t-shirt last year and this year. The design is to the left. We're using our school colors this year of yellow and blue and we wanted a more streamlined and modern logo for our club.
-
We meet monthly for around 30-45 minutes right after school. Sometimes, we have two choices to choose from that month. Sometimes, we don't read the selection, but present what we have been reading instead.
-
We have a couple of book exchanges during the year. Bring a book, trade, and get a book.
Our Setup from May Began Like This...to Continue for 2025-26
